MG Sales Thailand invites media to join the “NEW MG5 Media Ride and Drive”, experiencing the superior performance of the 4-door subcompact car with surprising coupé look that has defined a new benchmark in the automotive industry. The NEW MG5 comes with a true sporty design, a roomy and best-in-class highly comfortable cabin, outstanding performance and fully-equipped safety features that enhance the driver’ experience and confidence.

This is the first time that media will have an opportunity to test drive the NEW MG5 after the official launch at the end of 2015. The test drive route runs from Surat Thani-Phuket- Surat Thani province for a total of 250 kilometers, with a variety of en route roads, allowing media to test the superior performance of the New MG5, developed to respond to any driving conditions including heavy traffic in the city, great acceleration on highways and reliable handling on twisting and uphill roads.

The NEW MG5 has been designed under the concept of “Brit Dynamic” with a perfect combination of modern design, powerful performance, confident control and enhanced safety plus “inkaNet” an intelligent innovative communication system which connects the MG driver and the car to perfectly meet every demand and situation.   

The appearance of the NEW MG5 attracts all eyes on the road with its sporty “Coupé Design” concept. The 4-door subcompact car comes with a stunning V-shape engine bonnet that aligns with the projector headlights for better vision and safety. The Daytime Running Light (DRL) in an eye-catcher while also enhancing safety. MG’s new signature long-shaped design of its rear lights differentiate it from the crowd. Its values is also enhanced by its electric sunroof.

The NEW MG5’s Interior Design has been developed to offer full comfort, providing greater convenience for all passengers. Produced and decorated with outstanding materials, MG has selected firm, high quality leather seats. The advanced multifunction steering wheel, matches the sporty cluster and dashboard with intelligent display, 7-inch touch screen display, a navigation system, rear camera and Bluetooth connection, all of which give the NEW MG5 driver full control and total confidence in the car.

The NEW MG5 offers two choices of gasoline engine: TURBO 1.5 Litre: 129 PS at 5,500 rpm and 210 Nm of torque at wide 2,000-4,400 rpm, to further enhance your confidence. It is also powered by a 1.5-Litre gasoline engine: 106 PS at 6,000 rpm and 135 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. Both engines are Gasohol E85 capable in order to be cost-effective for drivers.

The transmission of the NEW MG5 is a 6 speed automatic gearbox for the TURBO 1.5L variant and a 4 speed automatic for the 1.5L variant. The gearbox has been developed to flawlessly meet the NEW MG5’s strong characteristic driving performance on both highways and city roads. The gearbox provides fast and smooth shifting, in which the driver can choose the Sport or Manual mode for a strong and exciting experience. .

Enhanced suspension allows for impressive road handling in the NEW MG5 providing driver confidence. The signature European Tuning Suspension is built with front Ultra-Rigid MacPherson Strut Front Suspension and Precision H-torsion Beam Rear Suspension and U-shape Beam. It comes with 4-wheel disk brakes with Low Dragging Calipers for a fast and accurate response.

The highlight of NEW MG5 is its superior safety with the 9 Integrated Safety Systems – the best in the subcompact class. Staying true to the 'Brit Dynamic' concept, the NEW MG5 comes with a bigger package of safety technologies that minimize accident risk: HAS - Hill Start Assist System, TCS - Traction Control System, ABS - Anti-lock Braking System, EBD - Electronic Brake Force Distribution, MSR - Motor control Slide Retainer, CBC – Curve Brake Control, ITPMS - Indirect Tire Pressure Monitor System, EBA – Electronic Brake Assist, SCS - Stability Control System.

The NEW MG5 is the second MG model that comes with inkaNet - an intelligent safety telematics communication system which includes seven key functions – Vehicle Alarm, Navigation through Google Map to track the vehicle position and real-time traffic status, Electronic Fence - helps the driver set the driving range, Fuel Consumption – helps the driver calculate the fuel consumption rate, i-Call and Travel Plan - reaching MG CALL CENTRE at a touch. Especially for NEW MG5 customers, free airtime charge is available for five years for the inkaNet system connection.
